World Trade Center - The Movie
I went to Al Gore’s movie - An Inconvenient Truth (Everyone should see this movie). One of the previews was for a new Nick Cage movie - World Trade Center. I was thinking while watching the preview about peoples’ reaction to things like the attacks on 9/11. The reaction that our “leaders” showed us was fear - we struck back at things that we thought we could destroy and might be connected to the guys flying the planes. My response, and one that I hope is common - I feel a resolution in my beliefs in the system that was created in our country. The most important thing I can do is to continue to vote, to speak my mind and to accept and love my neighbors whether white or middle-eastern. I’m sad for those that can only fill their lives with hate and fear.
I understand that the normal human reaction is to fear things. I’m just sad the those that should be the most advanced - our president and other high level leaders - would take the lowest road. In the 1968 book by Elsabeth Kubler-Ross - “On Death and Dying” she described the 5 stages of grief - Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. When we went into Iraq the president said that we had become angry and moved on. I agree, we’ve got a lot of healing to do - and as long as we stick to Anger as our only response - we’re stuck.
I’m hopeful that the American people will wake up, and move on. We need to show how great we are - by being great, not through force.
